ETHERNET Powerlink Module

-FPGA-based solution for cost-effective ETHERNET Powerlink implementations

Highlights

  • Hardware-based "single chip" solution for controlled Nodes
  • Reference design for Altera-FPGA with Ethernet Controller, HUB and CPU (NIOS II)
  • Fast poll response times (<=2us)
  • EPL protocol stack in accordance with the ETHERNET Powerlink specifications can be implemented directly on the module
  • Host connection via shared memory interface or serial port
  • 2-port hub with RJ45 connectors integrated
  • Node-ID setting via DIP-switch

The EPL module represents a very flexible, fast solution for the implementation of ETHERNET Powerlink in devices sucha as drives, I/O modules, encoders etc. as a Controlled Node. For connection to the application CPU, a serial port is availabe for simple devices or a shared memory interface for more complex devices (quasi dual-ported memory). The memory required for this is already on the EPL module so that the address/data bus of the EPL module. For simple applications it is possible to run the application together with the EPL protocol software on the EPL module. The EPL module also has an integrated 2-port hub with two RJ45 connectors. Device vendors can also integrate the hardware design instead of the add-on module directly in their own circuit.
